Three of top five draft picks sign

- John McClain

The Texans have signed three of their five draft choices — receiver Nico Collins, tight end Brevin Jordan and defensive tackle Roy Lopez.

Collins was drafted in the third round, Jordan in the fifth and Lopez in the sixth. Quarterback Davis Mills and linebacker Garret Wallow have yet to sign.

General manager Nick Caserio wants to get his draft choices under contract so they can participate in the rookie minicamp this weekend.

Safety Clinton-Dix to get a tryout

The Texans are giving a tryout this weekend to veteran NFL safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

In a story first reported by @ProFootballTalk, Clinton-Dix will try out at the rookie minicamp.

Clinton-Dix, 28, is a six-year veteran who didn’t play last season after being waived by Dallas in September.

A first-round pick in 2014 by Green Bay, Clinton-Dix also played for Washington and Chicago.

The Texans have six safeties on their roster, including three who started last season in Justin Reid, Eric Murray and Lonnie Johnson Jr.

Rookie minicamp to begin Friday

Now that the draft is over, the Texans turn their attention to their three-day rookie minicamp that starts Friday and ends Sunday.

The first phase of the voluntary offseason program ends Friday. Phase two is May 17-21 when players are on the field with coaches for the first time. They’ll continue to have virtual meetings. The third phase begins May 24 with the first of 10 OTAs. The Texans also have OTAs scheduled for May 26-27, June 1, June 3-4, June 7-8 and June 10-11.

The three-day minicamp — the only mandatory part of the offseason program — is June 15-17.
