Astros (73-51) update: Despite going 3-4 against the Royals and Mariners this past week, Houston widened its AL West lead to 3½ games over Oakland, which went 2-5 against the White Sox and Giants. … With a win Monday night, Greinke would tie Chris Bassitt, Gerrit Cole and Hyun Jin Ryu for the American League lead. … Jose Altuve ranks fourth all-time with 294 RBIs at Minute Maid Park. He needs three to tie Carlos Lee for third. … On Friday (Altuve and Carlos Correa) and Saturday (Taylor Jones and Jacob Wilson), the Astros had their first back-to-back two-triple games in 31 years. It last happened Aug. 2-3, 1990. They had no triples Sunday.
Royals (55-68) update: Kansas City has won six of its last seven games. It swept a three-game weekend road series from the Cubs after winning three of four at home against the Astros. … The Royals have 31 stolen bases in their last 22 games and with 93 steals on the season rank second in the majors to the Padres (95). … Whit Merrifield has a steal in 10 of his last 18 games. With 37 stolen bases on the year — including a steal of home Saturday — he’s second in the majors to Startling Marte (39). … Merrifield and Carlos Santana have played in all 123 games this year. The only other two players in the majors to have participated in all of their team’s games are Dansby Swanson (124 for Atlanta) and Marcus Semien (122 for Toronto). … Catcher Salvador Perez set a club record Friday with his fifth multi-homer game of the season. His 32 home runs rank fourth in the majors.
