Astros (93-66) update: With its fourth AL West crown in five years wrapped up, Houston needs one win or White Sox loss to clinch home field against Chicago in their American League Division Series, which begins Thursday. … Yuli Gurriel is in position to join three-time champ Jose Altuve as the only Astros to win batting titles. Gurriel leads the AL with a .316 average, with only two other qualifiers, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (.313) and teammate Michael Brantley (.312) above .301. Still in contention, Brantley needs two more plate appearance­s to remain qualified at season’s end. … Altuve’s 114 runs are a career high, and his 31 homers match his personal best. … After nabbing two Rays in Thursday’s division clincher, catcher Martín Maldonado has thrown out 19 of 48 runners trying to steal on him this season. The 19 runners caught is an AL best.

Athletics (85-74) update: After sweeping three games from the Astros at Oakland last weekend, the A’s were swept in three games by Seattle, eliminatin­g them from playoff contention. … The A’s .238 team batting average ranks 23rd in the majors. Only three times since they moved to Oakland in 1968 have they finished below .240: 1979 (.239), 1982 (.236) and 2012 (.238). … Former Astros player Tony Kemp recently had a string of 88 consecutiv­e plate appearance­s without a strikeout. … Matt Chapman’s 165 putouts are the most by a major league third baseman since Darrell Evans had 185 for the 1974 Braves. … Andrew Chafin is the only pitcher in the majors who has appeared in 70 games in each of the last four full seasons.
