Shadow Creek snaps Dawson’s streak

After losing to Dawson in overtime last season, Shadow Creek got its payback Friday night.

The Sharks earned a 45-31 victory at The Rig in District 23-6A action. The result handed Shadow Creek its third straight win. Dawson, meanwhile, had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Shadow Creek (3-2, 2-0) was led by a pair of rushers, who helped the team collect 339 yards on the ground. Tylik Burton finished with 161 yards, and Felix Buchanan added 125 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterbac­k Duke Butler passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another.

Bryce Burgess had a standout performanc­e for Dawson (3-2, 1-1), rushing for 207 yards and two touchdowns. Ashton Stroman had seven catches for 102 yards and a score.

Defense leads Foster to victory over Terry

In a challengin­g district that leaves little room for error, Foster took care of business Friday night.

The Falcons held off B.F. Terry for a 17-10 victory at Traylor Stadium as they attempt to keep pace with District 10-5A Division I frontrunne­rs Hightower, Angleton and Paetow.

Foster led 14-10 at the intermissi­on, and the defense responded with a shutout in the second half. The Falcons (4-2, 3-1) limited Terry (1-5, 0-4) to just 187 total yards.

Ashton Ojiaku had a 28-yard intercepti­on return for a touchdown for Foster to get the scoring started early in the first quarter. Micah Linzy- Williams scored on a 46-yard pass from J.T. Fayard in the second period, and Nicholas Arellano added a 30yard field goal in the third.

Unbeaten St. John’s gets road shutout

St. John’s continues to show its prowess in the private school ranks.

The Mavericks, which entered the night as the No. 5 team in the area rankings, began its Southwest Preparator­y Conference 4A schedule with a 37-0 road victory over Houston Christian.

Miles Masterson scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the charge for St. John’s (5-0, 1-0). Quarterbac­k John Purdue reached paydirt twice on the ground, and the defense provided a safety.

The Mavericks have a big test coming up next week against Episcopal. The Knights have won nine consecutiv­e matchups against St. John’s and have a 14-3 record in the series since 2004.

Hines, Alief Taylor rush past Elsik

Alief Taylor brought the offensive firepower to Crump Stadium on Friday.

The Lions rolled to a 34-13 victory over Elsik in District 23-6A action, collecting 527 yards of total offense along the way. Taylor is now 16-3 against Elsik since 2004.

The Lions (3-2, 1-1) received a standout performanc­e from Alonzo Hines, who rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown. Javon West added 112 yards and a score as Taylor rushed for 336 as a team.

Young’s Madison jersey is retired

Vince Young was the most prolific football player to ever don the Madison powder blue.

The legendary quarterbac­k had his No. 10 jersey officially retired during a pregame ceremony Friday evening at Butler Stadium, weeks after his induction into the Houston ISD Athletics Hall of Fame.

Young, 37, was a star at Madison under coach Ray Seals and guided the Marlins to a 14-1 record and state semifinals appearance in 2001. He played his senior season as the consensus No. 1 recruit in the country and accounted for more than 3,800 yards and 59 touchdowns.

Young went on to the University of Texas, where he led the Longhorns to the 2005 national championsh­ip. He continued his career in the NFL and was a twotime Pro Bowl selection.

Madison rolled past Northside 62-0 to earn its first District 11-5A Division II win of the year. The Marlins (2-3, 1-2) have won seven of the past eight matchups against the Panthers.

Thursday notes

Cypress Park defeated Cypress Lakes 56-0 in a District 16-6A matchup on Thursday at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium. Harold Perkins had seven carries and rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns for the No. 22 stateranke­d Tigers (5-0, 2-0). Cameron King collected 208 total yards and two scores.

Klein Cain continued its dominant start to District 15-6A action with a 63-14 victory over Tomball Memorial on Thursday at Klein Memorial Stadium. Carson Roper accounted for 373 total yards and five touchdowns to lead the Hurricanes (5-1, 2-0), and Matthew Golden had 115 yards receiving.

Pasadena Memorial romped to its first District 22-6A victory, beating Sam Rayburn 56-13 on Thursday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Mavericks (2-3, 1-0) were led by Javian Nowlin and Jaylon Bell, who rushed for 156 and 153 yards, respective­ly. Bell finished with four touchdowns.

Seven Lakes rolled to a 44-20 victory over Katy Taylor in a District 19-6A matchup Thursday night at Legacy Stadium. Barrett Hudson had a huge game for the Spartans (4-2, 1-1), rushing for 247 yards and a touchdown. Michael Amico contribute­d 110 yards and a score on the ground.

Cinco Ranch picked up its first District 19-6A victory of the season on Thursday, beating Mayde Creek 45-14 at Rhodes Stadium. Sam McKnight rushed for 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Cougars (4-2, 1-1), and Grayson Williams had two catches for 97 yards and two scores.

Dekaney earned its first victory of the season, beating Nimitz 35-21 in District 14-6A action Thursday at Thorne Stadium. Davion Wilson led the charge for the Wildcats (1-4, 1-1) with four touchdowns — two passing and two rushing. The defense held Nimitz to just 202 total yards.
