Dominique Sachse, one of Houston’s most famous TV faces, is retiring after nearly 30 years on air. Her last day as evening anchor will be Oct. 29.

“I have spent most of my adult life at KPRC, and the staff here is like family to me,” Sachse said on the station’s website. “It’s that daily one-onone interaction that I’ll miss the most. It takes a team effort to produce a quality news product, and I’m so proud of this team’s character, integrity and accomplishments. But it’s mainly service to community, which is how I’ve always seen my role and will continue to do so in my new endeavors.”

Sachse said she will focus on a new book she has been working on since 2018 called “Life Makeover: Embrace the Bold, Beautiful, and Blessed You.” It will be released April 5, 2022. She will also focus on continuing to expand her social-media empire, as her YouTube channel already has an impressive 1.52 million subscribers.

The Emmy award-winning journalist joined KPRC-TV (Channel 2) in 1993. She is a graduate of the University of Houston. She began in local radio, as a metro traffic reporter for a variety of stations and later a disc jockey at KHMX-FM (Mix 96.5). Her first job at KPRC-TV was covering traffic for the morning show.

Over at KTRK-TV (ABC-13), anchor Art Rascon is leaving TV after 23 years.

In an email to ABC-13 staff, Rascon wrote: “My dear friends, after 36 years of reporting the world and more than 28 years with the ABC/Disney company, it’s time to pursue other opportunities. … Thank you for such an incredible and rewarding journey. … It has been such a blessing to witness history in a remarkable way. Truly, I have had the best job in the world.”

The veteran broadcast journalist announced he’s looking forward to life off air, with a variety of religious and community service projects, and plans to leave the station at the end of the year.

Rascon joined KTRK-TV in 1998. Before joining the station, he worked as a national correspondent for CBS News and as a reporter for the ABC-owned station in Los Angeles. He has reported from more than 70 countries and five continents, and covered news in nearly every state in the United States.

He passes his legacy on to his son, Jacob Rascon, who joins KTRK-TV as a new anchor and reporter beginning 2022.

“I remember visiting the station as a kid and meeting Dave Ward, Deborah Duncan, Wayne Dolcefino and Marvin Zindler,” Jacob Rascon said. “The fact that I’m now following in their footsteps and my father’s, who is the consummate journalist and an even better person, makes me immensely proud.”
