Abbott’s ban counters Biden

-

Mandate battle

Regarding “Abbott flips, aims to bar private businesses in Texas from requiring vaccines,” (Oct. 11): The article lists several reasons why Gov. Greg Abbott flipped his position but failed to include the major reason. That would be the fact that President Joe Biden is working on mandating businesses with more than 100 employees to require employees to be vaccinated or get regularly tested. Biden originally said he would not mandate vaccines but he flipped his position to now require them and Abbott is responding to that. Abbott is actually trying to protect the businesses from intrusion by the federal government. Many businesses such as Southwest Airlines only started implementing mandates in response to Biden’s announcement. At least be brave enough to include the rest of the story even when that part does not fit your narrative.

Banning COVID-19 vaccine mandates is one of the dumbest things this governor has ever done. As a lifelong Republican, I am deeply embarrassed.

Dr. C. Richard Stasney, Houston

Seems that Gov. Greg Abbott’s micromanaging of how businesses run their company is more socialism than free market. The Republicans are still trying so hard to be little Trumpettes that they’ve lost any semblance of rationality in their rush to appease the extreme right.

This won’t have any legal effect, but it will give those opposed to vaccines more slogans to scream at those trying to prevent a pandemic from spreading.

Good job, governor. QAnon would be proud.
