Rodeo announces winners of 2022 wine competition
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo recently announced the winners of the 2022 Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition at NRG Center in honor of Charles M. “Bear” Dalton, a founding member.
“The wine industry is a vital sector of Texas agriculture, which is why we are incredibly proud to host one of the largest international wine competitions in the country, as it further supports our mission of promoting agriculture,” rodeo president and CEO Chris Boleman said in a prepared statement.
The wine competition is a highly anticipated event every year ahead of RodeoHouston, which is happening Feb. 28 to March 20, 2022. The 19th annual competition featured 2,862 entries from 17 countries, including 480 entries from Texas wineries.
A California wine from Paso Robles took the top spot as Grand Champion Best of Show. The state had the best showing, with six wines winning the competition’s various categories.
Becker Vineyards and Hye Meadow Winery won the two Texas categories.
This is not the end of the road for the wine champions. They will be paired with dishes at the Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup & Best Bites Competition, slated for Feb. 20. They will also be sold at the Feb. 27 Champion Wine Auction & Dinner. A selection will be available for purchase at the Champion Wine Garden the entire duration of the rodeo.
Wine champions from Texas will participate in Texas Wine Celebration Day at the Champion Wine Garden on March 3.
