Kelly has been doing the receiver shuffle

-

Texans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly has needed to adapt his offense around injured slot receivers often this season.

The franchise had to sign Danny Amendola when Anthony Miller’s shoulder dislocation during the preseason kept him out of the season opener, and, after Amendola suffered a Week 2 hamstring injury against the Browns, the Texans returned to Miller for two games before cutting him in early October.

Chris Moore, a six-year veteran who began the season on the practice squad, was elevated against the Patriots in Week 5 to replace Miller and recorded career-highs in both catches (five) and yards (109) with a touchdown in the 25-22 loss.

But, after Moore caught four passes for 14 yards in a 31-3 loss against the Colts, Amendola returned to the lineup the following week against the Cardinals. Since then, Amendola has been the featured slot receiver with 11 catches for 92 yards in five games.

Now, Kelly is having to shuffle the depth chart again. Amendola underwent a scope on his knee

Tuesday morning after suffering an injury against the Jets, a person familiar with the injury said, and the veteran could be sidelined for four games.

The Texans could turn to Moore again Sunday). The franchise also signed Davion Davis in October, and the 24-year-old former FCS All-American from Sam Houston State could make his debut after spending nearly two months on the sideline.

There has been slim production from slot receiver on a Texans offense that ranks 31st in the NFL in passing yards per game (186.5).
