ALYCE “ALLY” (LINNA) WARNER

1924-2021

-

Mrs. Alyce (Ally) Beverly Warner nee Linna, 97, a resident of Treemont Retirement Community, Houston, Texas and a long time resident of Houston passed away peacefully after an extended illness on December 6, 2021. Alyce was born in Maynard, Massachusetts on October 21, 1924 but spent much of her early life in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. She was the daughter of and is predeceased by her parents, Finnish immigrants, the late Waino and Tina Linna and was very proud of her Finnish heritage. She is also predeceased by her son Chester Warner, her sister Norma Boutwell and her sister and brother in law Mary and Mac Batchelder of Oakdale Connecticut. She was a graduate of Milford Area Senior High and of Nashua Business College where she won awards for her speed and accuracy in typing. She was an accomplished ballroom dancer, a brilliant and award-winning painter in oils, a pianist and a wonderful cook. Early in her life she ran an Arthur Murray dance school and was told by Arthur Murray that she was lighter on her feet than anyone he’d ever danced with. She was creative and encouraged creativity in others. She loved classical music, big band, opera, art, books, Scrabble, crossword puzzles, Sudoku and crocheting. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Steve and Diana Warner of Houston, TX, daughter Sheba Delaney of Annapolis Maryland, daughter and son-in-law Beth and Mike Gaw of Houston, son Michael Warner of Rusk, four grandchildren, Sarah Cloutier-Houston, Alexander Gaw, Tyler Ross and Katherine Delaney, two great grandchildren, Brena Lynn Houston and Ezra Storm Gaw as well as nieces and nephews. For us as her children, there’s a place in the heart that only a mother can fill and for us that place is a lonely one now and forever. She was the first to admit that she was not perfect but she faced adversity with strength, had compassion for others and tried hard to live her life with honesty, understanding and grace. She was a very special and talented person and will be missed very much by all her family. There will be no service, her ashes will be scattered according to her wishes at a later date. If you wish to remember her in some fashion, please contribute to a charitable cause in her name. Her charities were the World Wildlife Fund, the arts, Veteran’s charities, food banks and public broadcasting.
