UH’s Jones again named All-American
The postseason honors continue to pile up for Marcus Jones.
Jones, the University of Houston’s cornerback/kick returner, was named Associated Press first-team All-American on Monday.
Listed as a defensive back on the AP team, Jones was one of the most versatile players in the country this season with five interceptions and four kick returns for touchdowns.
Jones won the Hornung Award, presented to college football’s most versatile player, and was the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year.
He already has been named a first-team AllAmerican by the Football Writers Association of America and ESPN as a kick returner and by CBS Sports as all-purpose player.
He was a second-team selection by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
With his AP and FWAA honors, Jones can earn consensus All-American by being named to the first team on either the American Football Coaches Association or Sporting News teams that will be announced this week. Those outlets, along with the Walter Camp, are among the five that determine consensus All-Americans.
The last consensus All-American for the Cougars was Ed Oliver in 2017 and 2018, ending a nearly 30-year drought for the school.

Green, Leal land on AP first team
Texas A&M’s Kenyon Green and DeMarvin Leal were also first-team selections on the AP All-America team.
Green, from Humble, is the first player from A&M to earn back-to-back AllAmerica honors since Myles Garrett following the 2016 season and became the first A&M offensive lineman to achieve the feat since Jake Matthews (201213). Green was a secondteam selection last year.
Leal helped the A&M defense limit opponents to just 15.9 points per game (No. 3 nationally) and tie for No. 8 nationally in sacks at 3.25 per game (39 for 272 yards in 12 games).
Alabama puts 3 on first team
Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and Alabama teammates Will Anderson Jr. and Jameson Williams gave the Crimson Tide three players on the AP first team. Young became the fourth Alabama player, and first Tide quarterback, to win the Heisman on Saturday night. Anderson, who leads the nation in sacks with 15½, was fifth in the Heisman voting.
Baylor had two players recognized: first-team safter Jalen Pitre and thirdteam offensive tackle Connor Galvin. UTSA running back Sincere McCormick was also a third-team selection.
