Short-handed Nets take down Raptors

- WIRE REPORTS

NEW YORK — Kevin Durant got the 14th tripledouble of his career, Patty Mills made a 3 to force overtime, and the Brooklyn Nets beat the Toronto Raptors 131-129 on Tuesday night.

Durant was upgraded from questionable just before the game because Brooklyn has seven players in the NBA’s health and safety protocol, including starters James Harden, LaMarcus Aldridge and DeAndre’ Bembry. He responded to the lastminute add by scoring 34 points, pulling down 13 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists.

Mills added 30 points as Brooklyn won its third straight. The loss snapped a two-game win streak for Toronto (12-15).

Chris Paul had 24 points, 14 assists and eight rebounds, and his step-back 11-footer with 8.1 seconds left forced overtime to help Phoenix win in Portland.

Deandre Ayton added 28 points and 13 rebounds as the Suns stayed within a half-game of the Warriors for the best record in the NBA.

Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 31 points and 10 assists.

COVID SPIKE SPREADS

On Tuesday, Giannis Antetokounmpo became the latest NBA star to be sidelined by COVID-19.

The league’s injury report listed the two-time MVP as out for the Milwaukee’s game against Indiana on Wednesday because he’s in the health and safety protocols. Milwaukee’s Wesley Matthews also has entered the protocols and won’t play.

The Los Angeles Lakers, meanwhile, canceled their practice after Talen Horton-Tucker entered the protocols before the team’s flight to Dallas for a game Wednesday.

Those developments came a day after the league announced that it was postponing two Chicago Bulls games this week after 10 of the team’s players, as well as other staff members, landed in the protocols. Those two games — against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday and the Raptors on Thursday — were the league’s first postponements of the season.
