Conner Weigman

wants to help build something special in College Station. Wednesday marked the first step in that process.

The quarterback officially joined the Texas A&M football program as he signed his letter of intent on the first day of the early signing period. He will graduate from Bridgeland early and join the Aggies for classes and offseason workouts in January.

Weigman is the No. 2 player in the country at his position for the 2022 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. He trails only Austin Westlake’s Cade

Klubnik, who signed with Clemson, in the site’s composite rankings.

Weigman, who also plans to play baseball for the Aggies, is the No. 19 overall recruit in the country. He was recently named Offensive Player of the Year by the Touchdown Club of Houston. He completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 2,276 yards and 27 touchdowns against five interceptions while leading the Bears to the state quarterfinals. He also rushed for 647 yards and seven scores and caught two touchdown passes.

Weigman finished his high school career with 8,580 yards and 96 touchdowns through the air and 1,955 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground in three years.

“These coaches have instilled a lot of hard work into me, and they’ve programmed me the right way,” Weigman said. “I owe a lot to them. If it wasn’t for them, I probably wouldn’t be here in this position today. It’s just cool to be able to be the one of the first classes to set the culture at Bridgeland and set the expectations here.”

Weigman was joined by teammates Andrew Maleski and Terrance Cullivan for a signing ceremony at the school Wednesday afternoon. Maleski, a receiver, will be joining the Aggies as a preferred walkon. Cullivan, a safety, is headed to the Air Force Academy.

Weigman wasn’t the only Houston-area standout to join the Aggies and coach Jimbo Fisher on Wednesday. Far from it, in fact.

Shortly after the sun came up, letters of intent from Dickinson tight end Donovan Green and offensive lineman P.J. Williams, both four-star recruits, were received. Other four-star players followed, including Marshall receiver Chris Marshall, Clear Springs receiver Noah Thomas, Katy defensive lineman Malick Sylla, Katy defensive back Bobby Taylor and The Woodlands linebacker Martrell Harris. The Aggies are also still in the hunt for a pair of five-star players: Cypress Park linebacker Harold Perkins and North Shore defensive back Denver Harris, who plans to sign later this week.

“It’s really exciting,” Weigman said of the class. “We made an emphasis. We feel like there’s a good amount of players in Texas where you can win a national championship. I feel like that’s what we did — we recruited players in Texas to stay in Texas, and I feel like that’s the way to win a national championship.”

Atascocita offensive lineman Kam Dewberry, another four-star recruit, was a nice addition to the class Wednesday afternoon as he revealed live on ESPN2 that he will be headed to College Station.

“I have a chance to get to play against the guys who play on Sundays, and that’s what I want to do, too.” said Dewberry, who is the No. 17 overall recruit in the state. “The SEC is where the best football is played, and I’m excited to get my chance to play against the best in the country.”

Texas nabs talented trio

Texas did not snag nearly as many Houston-area recruits as the Aggies, but it did land some big-time signings.

Summer Creek five-star offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr., who was originally an Oregon commit, officially joined the Longhorns.

He was joined by Klein Cain four-star running back Jaydon Blue, who sat out his senior season to ease the wear and tear on his body. Blue, who was ranked as the No. 1 running back in the country for his class at one time, rushed for 2,155 yards and 30 touchdowns as a junior.

Also headed to the Forty Acres is North Shore fourstar defensive lineman Kris Ross, who will lead the Mustangs against Duncanville in the Class 6A Division I state title game Saturday afternoon.

Katy celebrates five players

Katy had perhaps the most robust ceremony of any school in the Houston area, with five players heading to Power Five programs. Three-star linebacker Ty Kana (Texas Tech), fourstar receiver Nicholas Anderson (Oklahoma) and defensive back Hamilton McMartin (Texas) joined Sylla and Taylor for the celebration.

Katy wrapped up its 14-1 season this past weekend with a loss to Westlake in the state semifinals.

Baylor signs four from area schools

Richard Reese lit up defenses all season for Bellville. Now the threestar running back will try to do the same in Waco. Reese was one of four Houston-area players to sign with Baylor.

He was joined by College Park three-star tight end Cody Mladenka, The Woodlands three-star offensive lineman Kaden Sieracki and Cypress Ranch three-star offensive lineman Bryce Simpson.

Georgia lands local playmaker

Clear Lake four-star defensive back Julian Humphrey was one of the most coveted recruits in the nation for his ability to make plays all over the field. Previously committed to Florida, he will still be continuing his career in the SEC after signing with Georgia.

Humphrey is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 11 cornerback recruit in the country and the No. 16 overall player in Texas.
