JANICE THOMAS HAYE

1930-2021

-

Janice Thomas Haye; dear wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; died on December 11, 2021 in her sleep. She was born on July 27, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas to Irene Sigmund Thomas and Julian Little Thomas. Janice graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, a beautiful and historic San Antonio school still in use today; where she was a member of the Lassos, Girl’s Cadet Corp and Skelton Literary Society. Her parents were both educators and instilled in her a pride of learning and a commitment to education. Her father battled tuberculosis while she was a teen formulating a quiet, introverted, nonjudgmental personality in Janice as the fear of TB in the 1940’s isolated the family from others. She graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in radio broadcasting and enjoyed the Radio House (KUT), Delta Gamma Sorority, Girls’ Glee Club and Reagan Literary Society. Most importantly, she met her long-time love, Edward Fabra Haye, at the University of Texas.

Ed and Janice were married on February 22, 1952 in San Antonio. Ed began his geology career with Standard Oil of Texas and Janice worked at the Brooke Army Medical

Center. They later moved to Gainesville, Seymour, Midland, and then back to San Antonio. Ed and Janice enjoyed traveling with friends and, over the course of their nearly 70-year marriage, they visited such far-flung locations as China, Australia, Europe, New Zealand, and Hawaii.

Ed and Janice eventually moved to Houston and raised their three children: Ellen, Paula, and Bryan. Ed left Standard Oil and started Photogravity Company Inc. Janice worked in real estate during the early Houston years, but remained active in the Heritage Society, St. Luke’s Church, and the Geological Auxiliary. She particularly liked playing bridge with her friends.

Janice is survived by her children and grandchildren; Jake (Megan), Eric, Kyndall, Jack, and Alex; and in-laws; Jason Doughty (Paula), Charlie Palmer (Bryan), and J Kelly Mowry (Ellen) who will continue to enjoy bottomless mimosas and soft serve ice cream in her memory.

A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park and Mortuary (1701 Austin Hwy) in San Antonio on Tuesday, December 21 at 3 pm.
