JACOB ANDREW COX

-

1981-2021

Jacob Andrew Cox was born August 24, 1981, to David Brian and Mary Catherine Kimsey Cox in Houston, Texas.

Jacob attended CypressFairbanks ISD Schools, graduating in 2000. Jacob was an avid swimmer, swam on the varsity swim team and played water polo for Cypress Creek High School. He loved to share his best tips for swimming with his nieces and nephews before a swim meet. After graduating high school, Jacob enrolled at The University of Alabama and became a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. With a B.S. in Supply Chain Management, for many years, Jacob worked in the oil exploration industry, working with several offshore firms, traveling to all parts of the world. He later joined the family tree transplanting enterprise, eventually becoming the branch manager of Environmental Designs, Inc.’s Northern California office. No matter where his career took him, Jacob was always the happiest on campus. He was last at U of A in November of this year. He had the opportunity to show his nephews his favorite parts of campus and to play football with them on the quad - a memory we will cherish for a lifetime.

Jacob was such a loving son, brother, and uncle. Jacob was always the person to call if you needed anything or if you just wanted to vent about a football game. He was the first to volunteer for tasks no one wanted to do. And he was the first to book a flight to attend any celebration. His contagious laugh could be heard from miles away. Jacob may not have known this about himself, but he was the glue that held us all together. He was constant, he was kind, he was selfless. He is everything we hope to embody moving forward.

On Sunday, December 12, 2021, Jacob, 40, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his grandparents James Sr. and Eloise Kimsey and Thomas “Pat” Sr. and Sonia Cox, his aunts Jane Cofran and Kelly Heallen, his uncle James Kimsey Jr., as well as his cousins Benjamin “Finney” Kimsey, WO William “Butch” Kimsey, James Kimsey III, and Richard Beasley. He is survived by his parents David and Cathy Cox, his brothers Jared Cox and wife Alissa, Joseph Cox and wife Laura, his sister Caitlin Cox and fiancée Lee Jenison, and by his nieces and nephews Elizabeth Jaimes Cox (10), Lawson David Cox (7), Warren Alexander Cox (6), and Genevieve Catherine Cox (4).

A memorial service in Jacob’s honor will be held at The Church of the Annunciation, 1618 Texas Avenue, Houston, Texas on December 28, 2021, at two o’clock in the afternoon.
