Rockets at 76ers

-

When/where: 6 p.m. Monday; Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia. TV/radio: ATTSW; 790 AM, 93.3 FM (Spanish), 1010 AM (Spanish). So far: Rockets 10-27; 76ers 19-16.

FIVE THINGS TO WATCH

Taking the temperature on Porter 1

The Rockets have not yet determined if they will discipline Porter after he left Toyota Center on Saturday after halftime following a heated locker room exchange with coaches. Porter’s reputation for letting his temper get the best of him dates back to his time in Cleveland and was a big reason why he lost all goodwill with the Cavaliers before the Rockets traded for him last January. .

Bench reinforcements coming?

2

The Rockets’ second unit got absolutely flattened by the Nuggets, even with a valiant effort in the fourth quarter in which a lineup of primarily G League Rio Grande Valley Vipers outscored the Nuggets 37-25. The severe drop-off between Houston’s starters and reserves, particularly defensively, was especially clear in the dreadful second quarter when the Rockets gave up 47 points en route to an insurmountable halftime deficit.

Defensive dialogue

3

Although Rockets coach Stephen Silas said he does not believe his team’s mistakes to be repetitive, the Rockets’ defense in the recent string of losses feels like a bad “Groundhog Day” remake. The Rockets have allowed opponents to shoot better than 52 percent in five games of the current seven-game losing streak and three times gave up more than 23 fast-break points.

Ball security and hustle

4

The Rockets’ turnover percentage (17.1) is the highest in the NBA, while the 76ers are in a four-way tie for second-lowest (12.7 percent) but only force 13.7 opponent turnovers per game. In other words, the 76ers don’t force a ton of giveaways but aren’t going to give the Rockets a bunch of extra possessions by turning the ball over themselves.

Setting the pace

5

Stylistically, Monday’s game will be a clash of opposites. Philadelphia operates at the NBA’s slowest pace and prefers post-ups to 3-pointers, while Houston is one of the fastest teams and has a penchant for triples.
