No. 25 A&M women thrashed by Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — No. 7 Tennessee took charge in the second quarter on Thursday night behind Jordan Horston’s 10 points on its way to a 73-45 win over No. 25 Texas A&M.

The Aggies (10-4, 0-2 Southeaste­rn Conference) led 21-20 after the first quarter. But the Lady Vols (14-1, 3-0) ran with Horston’s effort and eight points from Tamari Key during the second, when they had a 12-2 scoring run.

Key finished with nine points and 11 blocks, and Horston had 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Destiny Pitts scored 12 points to lead Texas A&M.

Aliyah Boston had 19 points and 18 rebounds, and the Gamecocks beat the Tigers in Baton Rouge, La., ending LSU’s 13game winning streak.

Zia Cooke scored 17 points and Destanni Henderson had 16 for the Gamecocks (14-1, 2-1 Southeaste­rn Conference).

South Carolina trailed by six points at halftime but built a seven-point lead with 5:21 left. LSU (14-1, 2-1) twice got within three but could not get closer.

Elissa Cunane scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and the Wolfpack (13-2, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) rolled past the rival Tar Heels (13-1, 3-1) in Raleigh, N.C.

Rhyne Howard scored 17 of her 30 points in the fourth quarter, and the Wildcats (8-3, 2-0 SEC) defeated the visiting Bulldogs (12-3, 1-2).

RICE POSTPONED

Rice’s Conference USA opener against Middle Tennessee scheduled for Thursday was postponed because of inclement weather in the Murfreesbo­ro, Tenn., area. The teams will play at 1 p.m. Friday.

Gus Okafor had a season-high 25 points as the Lions got past the Huskies in the teams’ Southland Conference opener at Katy.

Keon Clergeot had 17 points and eight assists for Southeaste­rn Louisiana (5-9), which broke its four-game losing streak.

Sam Hofman score a careerhigh 22 points for HBU (4-7).

Tahj Small had a career-high 28 points as the Texans beat the Bearkats in Stephenvil­le.

Montre Gipson had 18 points and six assists for Tarleton State (7-9, 2-1 WAC).

Savion Flagg had 18 points for Sam Houston State (7-9, 2-1).

Jules Bernard scored 22 points, Johnny Juzang added 18, and the Bruins (9-1) returned from a 25-day absence caused by COVID-19 to rout the Beach in Los Angeles.

INDIANA 67, NO. 13 OHIO STATE 51

Trayce Jackson-Davis had 27 points and 12 rebounds, and the host Hoosiers (11-3, 2-2 Big Ten) used stifling defense down the stretch to pull away for a victory over the Buckeyes (9-3, 3-1).
