BETTE ATKINS

October 25, 1956 - June 15, 2022

Beloved wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and sister, passed away on Wednesday, the 15th of June 2022, at 65 years of age. Bette was born in Asheville, North Carolina, to R.V. and Grayce Hopkins. She was married on the 20th of December 1979, to Leonard M Atkins (Corky), in Memphis, TN. Bette graduated from Texas Women’s University in Houston, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She and Corky remained in Houston where they raised their five children and he worked in the Oil and Gas industry.

Bette loved being a mother and dedicated most of her life to her children. She was a member of Victory where she worked to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Bette loved hiking in the mountains, spending time at the beach, and needlepoin­ting. In 2016, she and Corky moved to Dallas, TX so that she could be closer to her grandchild­ren. There they became members of Highland Park Presbyteri­an Church where she loved her time in Alpha, Anchor, and Women’s Circle.

Bette is survived by her husband, Leonard M Atkins (Corky), daughters Katie Atkins Webb, Marian Atkins Malutich, and Molly Atkins Larin; and sons John Hunter Atkins and Tyler Ross Atkins; and granddaugh­ter Madeline Grace Malutich; and grandsons Jack Stafford Webb, Hunter Ross Webb, and Cooper John Atkins; and brother John William Hopkins.

Bette’s life will be celebrated during a funeral service at two o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 29th of June, in the Wynne Chapel of Highland Park Presbyteri­an Church,3821 University Boulevard in Dallas, Texas. Immediatel­y following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the Parlor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ovarcome for research funding at www.ovarcome.org.
