Taylor, Brewers split with Cards

MILWAUKEE — Tyrone Taylor hit a three-run homer, Willy Adames added a solo shot and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 on Thursday to split a four-game series with their NL Central rivals.

Taylor’s drive to left field on a 2-1 sinker from Dakota Hudson (5-4) in the fourth inning gave the Brewers a 4-2 lead and snapped a streak of 46 1⁄3 innings without allowing a homer by the Cardinals righthande­r.

The Brewers, who have won five of seven, moved back into a first-place tie with the Cardinals atop the division. St. Louis has lost five of its last eight.

Mariners 2, Athletics 1: Oakland starter Frankie Montas took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning, then reliever A.J. Puk threw a pair of run-scoring wild pitches with two outs in the ninth that gave Seattle a 2-1 win at Oakland. The Mariners loaded the bases with three walks and rallied on Puk’s wayward tosses to complete a three-game sweep. Montas didn’t allow a hit until Adam Frazier lined a clean single to left field with two outs in the eighth.

Phillies 6, Padres 2: J.T. Realmuto hit a three-run homer, Kyle Schwarber added a two-run shot and Ranger Suárez pitched 7 1⁄3 strong innings as Philadelph­ia won at San Diego.

Pirates 8, Cubs 7 (10): Michael Chavis hit a tying home run in the eighth before pulling off a defensive gem and delivering a game-ending single in the 10th, sending host Pittsburgh over Chicago.

Dodgers 10, Reds 5: Freddie Freeman homered and drove in three runs, leading Clayton Kershaw and Los Angeles to a win at Cincinnati and a sweep of the season series. Kershaw (5-1) allowed one run and seven hits through six innings.

Braves 7, Giants 6: Dansby Swanson hit two home runs and Atlanta won at home for the Braves’ 18th win in 21 games. The defending World Series champions moved 11 games over .500 for the first time this season.

Twins 1, Guardians 0: Nick Gordon hit a thirdinnin­g home run for Minnesota starter Devin Smeltzer, and the Twins dodged a sweep with a win at Minneapoli­s. Gordon drove a 1-2 curveball from Zach Plesac (3-4) into the grass berm beyond the wall in center.

Marlins 3, Rockies 2: Avisail Garcia drove in the go-ahead run on a fielder’s-choice grounder in the eighth inning, and Miami beat Colorado at Miami to complete a three-game sweep.

Orioles 4, White Sox 0: Rookie Adley Rutschman homered, doubled and drove in three runs to lead Baltimore to a win at Chicago. Dean Kremer tossed 5

2⁄3 scoreless innings.
