Astros (48-27) update: After going 7-2 in its nine-game stretch against the Mets and Yankees, Houston has MLB’s second-best record and an 11½-game lead in the AL West. … Alex Bregman has reached base in 13 consecutiv­e games, hitting .356 (16-for-45) in that span with three home runs and 10 RBIs. … Yordan Alvarez will be hard-pressed to have a July that matches his previous month. The slugger led the majors in all three slash categories in June, batting .418/.510/.835.

Angels (37-41) update: Los Angeles is 3-4 against the Astros this season but won two of three games at Minute Maid Park in April. … Mike Trout, whose 23 home runs tie him with Alvarez and Kyle Schwarber for second in the majors (behind Aaron Judge’s 29), is also second in slugging at .650 (to Alvarez’s .658) and third in OPS at 1.037 (to Alvarez’s 1.070 and Paul Goldschmid­t’s 1.054). … Shohei Ohtani is slashing .308/.415/.635 over his last 15 games with four home runs and 12 RBIs. He is tied for eighth in the American League with 49 RBIs on the season. … Ohtani won’t face the Astros as a pitcher this go-around after beating the White Sox with 52⁄3 scoreless innings Wednesday night. That extended his streak to 212/3 scoreless innings, pushing him past Astros reliever Ryne Stanek (now at 20 after Thursday’s appearance) for the longest active run in the majors.
