RUTH THAYER

September 25, 1929 - July 15, 2022

Ruth O’Bryan Thayer entered this world on September 25th, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Kansas. Being one of eleven children, she cherished her siblings. She grew up on her father’s cattle ranch in St. Paul Kansas attending the Osage Mission Passionists Monastery. From an early age, her devotion to Catholicism and love of children was apparent. She pursued her passion for teaching at Loretto Heights College in Denver Colorado and was a member of the TriSigma sorority. This education enabled her to teach grade school in rural Kansas.

Along this journey she met her fiercely loved husband Keith B. Thayer—married for seventy-two years. They have eight wonderful children—the eight-J’s: Janey, Johnny Joey, Joanie, Julie, Jill, Jimmy, and Jacque. As well as a foster daughter, Anne. After raising their children, she served as the director of the Chimney Rock Hall for preschoolers through third graders for over twenty years. Her charitable endeavors included over twenty-five years working at the Charity Guild of Catholic Women.

With Keith always by her side, she traveled the world reaching every continent. While not traveling the world, she looked forward to every Saturday where she would shop and savor a slice of cake with her doting daughters.

Sadly, Ruth departed this world on July 15th, 2022, at the age of 92. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, July 18th at 6:00 pm with the rosary being recited at 6:30 pm at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77024. Father Wayne Wilkerson will lead a Funeral Mass the following day at 2:00 pm at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Rd, Houston, TX 77056. Following the service her family will lay her to rest at Memorial Oaks.

In honor of her work at the Charity Guild of Catholic Women, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Charity Guild General Fund, 1203 Lovett Blvd, Houston, TX 77006.
