William Thompson (“Bill”) Hale, 90, of Houston, Texas, beloved husband and father, left this life on July 15, 2022, after a brief illness. He was born on November 13, 1931, in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he grew up. He attended Louisiana Tech University where he met the love of his life and wife of almost 70 years, Laura Lee McGehee. Bill and Laura married on August 16, 1952. Following his college graduation, Bill served in the U.S. Air Force and then went to work as a Landman for Amoco Corporation in Houston. He loved his work and stayed with the same company until his retirement in 1991, having attained the position of Division Land Manager. After retiring, Bill and Laura traveled extensively, and both enjoyed serving their community through volunteer work. They are lifelong members of First Presbyterian Church.

Bill Hale was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Jennings Hale and Margaret Thompson Hale, his brother Claude Jennings (“Pete”) Hale, Jr., and his nephew, Richard Curry Hale. He is survived by his wife, Laura McGehee Hale, his two daughters, Laura Margaret Hale Viada, and Anne Thompson Hale, of Houston, Texas, and his niece, Claudia Hale Andrews, of Fairfax, Virginia.

Bill’s wife and daughters offer this remembrance and tribute: Bill Hale was a kind and gentle soul who lived his life with the utmost honesty, integrity, and grace. He was a loving, loyal husband and a devoted father who put his family above all else. He was hard-working, conscientious, generous to a fault, and unfailingly ethical. Bill Hale felt true compassion for others and treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. He loved his life, he loved us, and we will love him and miss him forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in William Thompson Hale’s memory be made to Houston Hospice, www.houstonhospice.org.
