Current position: Head baseball coach Whitting signed a five-year extension in Dec. 2018. Contract expiration: July 31, 2023
Base salary: $325,000 Non-salary compensation: $100,000 Additional compensation: $15,000 (equipment supplier incentive payable on Aug. 1)
Deferred compensation: $120,000 (paid in 2018 and 2019)
Retention incentive: Each July 31 of contract, if Whitting has completed previous season as head coach and remains head coach as of Aug. 1 of each new contract year, UH will pay a $30,000 retention incentive.
2022-23 salary: $470,000 Incentives:
Bonuses will be triggered if the most recent four-year academic data shows Academic Progress Rate (APR) score is 930 or above.
• $5,000: Conference regular season championship
• $7,500: NCAA tournament appearance or conference postseason tournament championship
• $7,500: Super regional appearance
• $10,000: Host super regional
• $25,000: College World Series appearance
• $5,000: College World Series win (per victory)
• $50,000: NCAA championship
• $2,500: Top 25 ranking at any point during season (one-time payout)
• $5,000: Top 25 ranking at end of season
• $2,500: Conference Coach of the Year
• $5,000: National Coach of the Year
• Annual ticket sales revenue more than $125,000. This amount will be calculated annually at the end of the season – 10 percent of annual ticket sales revenue more than $125,000.
• $3,500: Overall team GPA of 3.0 for scholarship players
• $3,500: Multiyear team APR rate of 960 or above
• $3,500: Team Graduation Success Rate of 70 percent or above
• $10,000: Regular season ticket sales above 1,000 Other details:
• Country club membership
• One courtesy car, including gas, oil and insurance.
• Complimentary tickets: 14 for baseball, six for men’s basketball and four club seating for football.
• If Whitting terminates contract without cause on or before Aug. 1, 2022, he owes the school $100,000.
• If UH terminates contract without cause, Whitting will be owed remaining base salary.
