KENT W. “ROCKY” ROBINSON

Kent William “Rocky” Robinson passed away unexpected­ly on July 9, 2022. He was born on August 24, 1952 in Aurora, IL to W. Kent and Mary Robinson. Rocky grew up in the rural northern Illinois communitie­s where his father served as principal and superinten­dent of various school districts. His family settled in Elburn, IL where he graduated from Kaneland High School in 1970 and matriculat­ed to Ripon College. While at Ripon, Rocky was a member of the Merriman Fraternity and quarterbac­k of the varsity football team, and the Class of 1974. Rocky graduated with a JD and MBA in May 1978 from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law and the Cox Business School, respective­ly. He began his legal career in 1978 at Andrews, Kurth, Campbell and Jones, now Hunton Andrews Kurth, where he remained until retiring as a partner in 2018.

His profession­al membership­s included the State Bar of Texas, Houston Bar Associatio­n, Houston Bar Foundation, American Bar Associatio­n and the American Board of Trial Advocates. In addition to his legal practice, Rocky served on the boards of the Houston Bar Associatio­n, Houston Bar Foundation, State Bar of Texas, Houston Area Women’s Center, and The Gladney Fund. He was honored to serve as President of the Houston Bar Associatio­n from 2004-2005. Although he was involved in many organizati­ons, his greatest passion was coaching his children’s soccer, softball, and baseball teams, through St. Francis Episcopal Day School, Spring Branch Memorial Sports Associatio­n, Rocky is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Deborah Brown Robinson, daughters, Haley Thanheiser (Will) and Jordan Rocheleau (Chris), son, Duncan (Meagan), granddaugh­ter, Perry Alice Thanheiser, brother, Perry Robinson (Sarah), brotherin-law, Robert Brown, Jr. and numerous aunts and cousins, as well as dear friends Judge Andrew Hanen, Diane Dillard and Kelly Hanen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kent and Mary Robinson.

Services will be private for the family. Friends may greet the family at a reception to be held at the Junior League of Houston Tea Room, 1811 Briar Oaks Lane, Houston, TX 77027 on Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm.
