Sengun practices, set to return after missing game with illness

Rockets center Alperen Sengun, who missed Saturday’s win at Detroit with an illness, returned to practice Monday with a chance at more help coming by Wednesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Guard Jalen Green, who also did not play against the Pistons, did not practice Monday because of his bruised right calf. But Rockets acting coach John Lucas said there is a chance that Green would be back this week.

“Alpe practiced today. He looks good. He’s ready to go,” Lucas said. “Jalen is progressing nicely. We don’t know the time frame but he’s doing well. Hopeful (he will play Wednesday). We’ll see what happens.”

Saturday’s game was the first this season that Green missed because of an injury. He also missed a game this month against the Clippers in Los Angeles when he was suspended for one game for leaving the bench area during an altercation in Sacramento, leaving the Rockets without their starting backcourt.

Guard Kevin Porter Jr. has missed the past nine games with a bruised left foot and remains out.

Rockets coach Stephen Silas, who was away from the team Saturday and for Monday’s practice to attend a memorial for his father, NBA great Paul Silas, is expected to be back for Tuesday’s practice.

“He gets back tonight,” Lucas said after running Monday’s practice. “Praise the Lord.

“I talked to him earlier this morning. He’s in good spirits. He’s good. What a great celebration of life that he went to and to be a part of that. That was good for him. Excited that we got a win. We get him back tomorrow, and we’ll prepare for OKC.”
