MARY ANN ULOTH MALONE

04/23/1931 - 02/14/2023

Mary Ann Uloth Malone was Mary or Ann to many, but she was known as Annie to family and friends. Our Annie appropriately chose Valentine’s Day to slip the bounds of the earth here in La Porte, Texas, and in the early morning hours of February 14, 2023, took the hand of her beloved Norman and finally danced her way home.

A native Houstonian, Mary Ann Uloth was born on April 23, 1931, at home on Gazin Street in Denver Harbor Addition, Houston, Texas. She was the second daughter of John Conrad Uloth and Willie George Stevenson. The family later moved to 6916 Lyons Avenue. She attended Eliot Elementary, Edison Jr. High School and was a 1949 graduate of Sam Houston High School in Downtown Houston.

She married Norman Lee Malone on September 15, 1950, followed by the birth of three children, Scott, Georgia, and Todd. The family moved to Lomax (La Porte), Texas, in 1956, where Annie was a stay-at-home mom while Norman worked at Shell Refinery in Deer Park. Bored with staying home, when her youngest went to school, so did she. Annie enrolled at Lee College in Baytown and loved it! Finding a new world open to her, she graduated from the University of Houston in 1965 and taught school at La Porte ISD and Pasadena ISD.

Annie left education for the business world in 1976, becoming a partner at Country Cottage Tea Room and Boutique in Deer Park, Texas. A few years later, her focus turned to fashion, and she became a partner of Bandolyn’s Women’s Boutique with shops in Pasadena and League City, where she remained active until the late 1990s.

Annie served faithfully as first lady to the City of La Porte until the death of her husband, Norman L. Malone, Mayor of La Porte, Texas, in 2004. Following his death, she diligently picked up the duty of serving the city as its historian and co-authored two books on La Porte and Sylvan Beach history.

Her last words were, “Tell everybody I love them.” And know that she truly did.

Mary Ann Uloth Malone was preceded in death by her parents, John Conrad Uloth, mother Willie George Stevenson; stepfather, Richard Shank; sister, Della Louise Uloth Anderson; and husband, Norman Lee Malone.

She is survived by son, Scott Andrew Malone, and wife, Pamela Todd; granddaughter, Jessica Malone; granddaughter, Jennifer Malone, and husband, Wes Wright; great-grandson, Jackson and great-grandbaby Wright; son, Todd Michael Malone, and wife, Elizabeth Nelson, granddaughter Molly Rose; granddaughter, Meghan Malone, and husband, Andrew Gill, great-grandson, Alexander Mack, and greatgrandson, Logan; nephew, Charles Malone, and wife, Christine Whitehead, greatgranddaughter, Charlotte, great-grandson, Colton; daughter, Georgia Malone; and long-time companion and friend, Gem, the cat. Heartfelt gratitude to neighbor Terry Ramos and the ladies of Heavenly Hands and Serenity House for making her last months happy.
