DOWNTOWN RODEO PARADE

Marking the start of a long-held tradition, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo season kicks off with its annual parade and Western heritage celebratio­n, featuring thousands of men and women on horseback, decorative floats, marching bands and enthusiast­ic spectators. This year, legendary bullfighte­r and barrel man Leon Coffee will lead the charge as the grand marshal.

RODEO ROUNDUP

The traditiona­l event kicks off Go Texan Day, with a proclamati­on by Mayor Sylvester Turner. Attendees can enjoy free chopped barbecue sandwiches provided by the World’s Championsh­ip Bar-B-Que Committee, live music and take pictures on top of a Longhorn steer.

BLACK HISTORY STORY TIME SERIES

Children’s Museum Houston and ABC13 Houston celebrate Black History Month with a story time series featuring books written by African American authors and local leaders in the community. Melanie Lawson is this week’s guest speaker.

Avenida Houston’s Black History Month Celebratio­n includes an outdoor market featuring local Black-owned businesses along with live musical entertainm­ent hosted by KTSU 90.9 FM. GARDEN RAILROAD FUN DAY

Houston Area “G” Gaugers (HAGG) model train club meets at the Rosenberg Railroad Museum every fourth Sunday to run trains on the tracks of the Garden Railroad Exhibit. The museum also hosts fun seasonal activities for kids on this day.
