A Porter man pretended to be a police officer when he used his Harris County Jail former inmate identification card during a road rage incident and confronted a driver, Montgomery County Precinct 4 officials said.

Yahia Emad Aljreere, 26, is charged with felony impersonating a public servant along with the unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance after being involved in a verbal altercation on Tuesday with another motorist in Porter.

According to a news release from Pct. 4, dispatchers around 2:30 p.m., notified a deputy of a reckless driver on the frontage road near FM 1314. A 911 caller reported he had been confronted by a manwho was driving a white 2015 Ford Fusion during a road rage incident. During the incident, the man allegedly drove in front of the other motorist and cut him off. The man then slammed on his brakes at a traffic light on the US Highway 59 frontage road, which caused the other motorist to go around the man to keep from being blocked in.

The motorist stated the man had displayed what looked to be a type of law enforcement credential ID contained in a leather lanyard, which he presented through the window while stopped next to him at the traffic light. The motorist said the man yelled that he was a police officer and would pull him over.

After getting the vehicle description and license plate, the deputy located Aljreere, who was driving east at the 25000 block of FM 1314. The deputy stopped Aljreere in the parking lot.

During the investigation, the news release states, the deputy found Aljreere had a black leather identification lanyard used for his employment as a wrecker driver in Harris County. He also had a photo identification card in the lanyard stating “Harris County Sheriff ’s Office” with a picture of himself and his personal information. The card also had a thin strip of black tape. The deputy removed the tape, revealing the words “Former Inmate Identification Card.”

Aljreere, the release states, told the deputy he showed his altered Former Inmate Identification Card to the motorist but could not give a reason why.

Aljreere was also found to be in the possession of a Springfield XDM 9mm semi-automatic handgun, which was fully loaded with the magazine inserted and a cartridge in the chamber.

He was taken to the Montgomery County Jail, where he later posted bond on $25,000 bail. Aljreere is also facing unrelated charges of failure to stop and render aid in Harris County after he allegedly fled the scene of an accident Feb. 8. His next court date in that case is March 30.
