Plant sales, events help support community

- By Brandi Keller CORRESPONDENT Brandi Keller is a Harris County Horticulture Agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.

Whether you are new to gardening, dabble occasionally, or serve as the neighborhood expert, the month of March provides some of the most diverse plant offerings of the year. Locally owned garden centers are a year-round resource for plant selection and care. However, local plant sales are targeted for the season by local organizations and clubs.

Gardeners love to learn, and these events provide much more than a plant to take home. Despite the term “sale,” they are serious educational opportunities. Sellers, fellow customers, specialized offerings and unique locations create an abundance of horticultural wisdom at every turn. As a bonus, many local plant sales are annual fundraisers, so you directly support the community.
