Wheaties to feature Watts

J.J., T.J. to grace the front while brother Derek joins them on the back

J.J. Watt’s playing career is over, but he’s still getting his own Wheaties box. Well, not his own. He’ll have to share it with his brother T.J., which the former Texans star was sure to point out in a social media video.

The Watt brothers grace an upcoming edition of the iconic orange box, featuring both of them appearing to run sprints.

“Three Defensive Player of the Year awards. He’s got one. And we share the box?” Watt jokes about his brother T.J., who was the league’s defensive player of the year in 2021, six years after J.J. won his third. “It’s still awesome. It’s still awesome, but I’m going to have a conversation with somebody over at Wheaties about this.”

T.J. took a similar shot at his brother, who will be inducted into the Texans’ Ring of Honor later this year, with a social media video of his own.

“I know J.J. is probably upset, a little hurt that he’s not solely on this box by himself, but the guy doesn’t play football anymore, so I have to share it with him, right?” T.J. said.

The limited-edition box will be available at major retailers nationwide in early August.

Derek Watt, the middle brother who played seven seasons in the NFL as a fullback, joins his brothers on the back of the box, which also includes tidbits about the family who all played in the same game when the Texans faced the Steelers in 2020.

“Built around a uniting love for football, the Watt family is grounded in perseverance, togetherness and a commitment to doing the right thing when it matters most, while serving communities in their lives outside of football,” Wheaties’ senior brand experience manager Kathy Dixon said. “That’s what being a Wheaties champion is all about, and one of the many reasons we’re so proud to feature J.J. and T.J. on the cover of this limited-edition box.”

J.J. Watt, who will work on CBS’ pregame show this season, retired from football in January, ending a 12-year career, including 10 seasons with the Texans, where he piled up 101 sacks. He finished his career with two seasons in Arizona, where he added another 13.5 sacks to his total.

Younger brother T.J. is preparing for his sixth season with the Steelers and already has amassed 77.5 career sacks and five Pro Bowl appearances, the same as J.J.

“Literally something you dream about as a kid,” J.J. said of his upcoming Wheaties box. “They talk about it. This is special. So, pretty excited. Go pick some up at your local stores. Special day for us.”
