Rankins out; 5 others on PUP list

The Texans have placed defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins on the active/non-football illness list while placing five others on the physically unable to perform list.

The names on the active/ PUP list include defensive end Chase Winovich, tight end Teagan Quitoriano, offensive tackle Charlie Heck, cornerback Kendall Sheffield, and offensive tackle Dylan Deatherage.

The PUP list is for players who suffered football-related injuries prior to camp. The active/non-football illness list is reserved for players who are unable to practice for conditions or injuries not related to NFL games. Each of those players will continue to count against the 90-man roster limit and can be removed from the list at any time.

The Texans’ veterans and rookies reported to training camp Tuesday. Quarterbac­k C.J. Stroud, who signed his rookie deal Tuesday, was among those who reported.
