Coast Guard seizes illegally caught fish
The Coast Guard seized 2,160 pounds of fish they say was caught illegally off the Texas coast by three crews of fishermen from Mexico, the agency announced recently.
The fishermen were allegedly illegally fishing north of the Maritime Boundary Line, the line marking the beginning of U.S. waters, off the coast of southern Texas Thursday, according to the Coast Guard’s statement.
Boat crews from Coast Guard Station South Padre Island and the Coast Guard Cutter Jacob Paroo and aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi located and stopped the 13 fishermen, according to the statement.
Coast Guard personnel seized 2,160 pounds of red snapper, along with fishing gear such as high flyers onboard the fishermen’s six boats, according to the statement.
Coast Guard crews detained the Mexican fishermen, brought them ashore and transferred them to U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel for “further processing,” according to the agency’s statement.
