Broome’s double-double leads Auburn to SEC title
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Johni Broome scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as No. 12 Auburn won the Tigers’ third Southeastern Conference Tournament championship by beating Florida 86-67 on Sunday in a game marred by a gruesome injury to Gators center Micah Handlogten.
The Tigers (27-7) avoided the upset bug that took out the SEC’s top three seeds in Friday’s quarterfinals, leaving them as the highest seed still standing. They never trailed in the final, adding titles to those won in 1985 and 2019 and earning a second under coach Bruce Pearl.
The sixth-seeded Florida Gators (24-11) lost Handlogten, who was taken off the court on a stretcher, to a broken lower left leg about three minutes in.
Shannon lifts Illinois to title
Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 34 points on 15for-17 shooting from the free-throw line, helping 13th-ranked Illinois past Wisconsin 93-87 in Big Ten tournament championship game at on Sunday.
Marcus Domask added 26 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Illini (26-8), who won their fourth conference
championship.

Jourdan Smith scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half and Grambling won its first Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament title with a 75-66 victory over Texas Southern 75-66 on Saturday night at Birmingham, Ala. Jonathan Cisse scored 21 points for TSU (16-16), which was seeking its fourth consecutive automatic NCAA berth. … Duquesne earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time in 47 years, beating fifth-seeded seeded VCU 57-51 at Atlantic City, N.J., to win the Atlantic 10 tournament championship. Dae Dae Grant led the Dukes (24-11) with 10 points. … Alejandro Vasquez sank five 3-pointers on his way to
scoring a career-high 29, and UAB cruised to an 85-69 victory over Temple in the championship game of the American Athletic Conference tournament at Fort Worth. … Matt Knowling hit a jumper at the buzzer and Yale closed the game on an 8-1 run to beat Brown 62-61 in the final of the Ivy League tournament at New York, sending the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time.
Ohio State names Diebler coach
Ohio State removed the interim tag from coach Jake Diebler's title and announced he will receive a five-year contract.
The Buckeyes went 6-2 under Diebler, an associate head coach who took over following Chris Holtmann's firing on Feb. 14.
