GEORGE FRANCIS BOBBITT

George Francis Bobbitt who was born on the 18th of July 1922, to Walter and Mable Bobbitt in Chapin, a small farming community located in central Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on the 23rd of March 2024, in Houston, Texas. He was 101 years and eight months of age.

George was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy with the armed guard seeing action in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters culminatin­g in Tokyo two weeks after the surrender of Japan in 1945.

After the war, George continued his education at the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. While attending school he married his sweetheart Bette Hastings who he met at a USO dance in Chicago Illinois. Bette of Williamsvi­lle Illinois also served in World War II with the British General staff in Washington DC.

After college, he and Bette moved to Houston Texas in 1948 and became a property tax consultant for Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, which later became Tenneco Inc. During his career, he rose to the position of Director of property tax countrywid­e for Tenneco. After retirement in 1984, he became an independen­t property tax consultant until his retirement in 2020.

George is preceded in death by his brother; Pete Bobbitt and his wife Ursula, Sister Aileene Bliss and her husband Chuck, and sister Myra Stubblefie­ld.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Bette (100 years old), Daughter Robin Bobbitt, son Jack Bobbitt and his wife Jian Bobbitt, nephew Richard Graham, and niece Diane Bensko.

Mr. Bobbitt was member of Christ Church Presbyteri­an. His passion and faith served as a guiding light throughout his life.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the the evening on Monday, the 1st of April, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

A memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 2nd of April, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributi­ons in George’s name be directed to the DePelchin Children’s Center of Houston, 4950 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77007.
