Return of Night Light to animate park trails
The annual Night Light art showcase returns to Tony Marron Park for its third year. Organized by Aurora Picture Show and Buffalo Bayou Partnership, this year’s free event will feature the premiere of the collaborative animated film “HomeBayou,” as well as visual art along the Buffalo Bayou East waterfront from 8 to 10 p.m. on April 6.
Artists and artwork
“Cross No Horizon,” created by Houston artist and filmmaker Ronald Llewellyn Jones, is an audio/visual installation that highlights the challenging journeys of immigrants, migrants and asylum seekers.
“Punks, Jockers, and Rails” by Houston artists Nick Vaughan and Jake Margolin explores LGBTQI2 histories across the U.S., focusing on early 20th-century hobo subcultures.
“Being for Others” showcases the art of Violette Bule, a Houstonbased artist and photographer of VenezuelanLebanese roots. Bule’s work encourages viewers to reassess the importance of empathy in dealing with immigration challenges and to promote multicultural unity in society and politics.
“HomeBayou,” is a collaborative animated film by Ethiopian artist Ezra Wube and residents from the Greater East End and Fifth Ward.
Market and music
A market will be set up at Tony Marron Park, offering music by DJ Gracie Chavez, food trucks and local vendors. Paths will connect the artists’ installations for walking and biking convenience.
Location and parking
Market and trail entrances will be at Tony Marron Park. Parking is limited, so attendees are encouraged to use rideshare, carpools, public transportation, or cycle or walk to get to the event.
