Stash of picks in ’24 draft at nine after latest deal

The Texans picked up an additional sixth-round pick in the trade for fourtime Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs on Wednesday.

They now have nine picks in the 2024 draft. Only three are their own picks.

It shows executive vice president and general manager Nick Caserio’s propensity to use his draft picks to his advantage. Last season, he set a franchise record with eight draft-day trades.

The official trade terms for Diggs, according to the Bills, include the Texans sending a 2025 secondroun­d pick to the Bills for Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifthround pick.

Below is an updated list of all the Texans’ 2024 picks and how they got them:

Round 1

Picks: None.

How it happened: The Texans traded their own first-round pick to the Cardinals (No. 27 overall) last year in the trade up for edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. They also traded the pick they had acquired from Cleveland (No. 23 overall) to the Vikings last month.

Round 2

Picks: No. 42 (via the Vikings) and No. 59 (own).

How they got them: The Texans picked up the Vikings’ second-round pick in the trade last month. DeMeco Ryans has said he feels rounds two, three and four are the sweet spot of the draft.

Round 3

Picks: No. 86 (via the

Eagles).

How they got them:

The Texans acquired the pick from the Eagles last year for pick No. 105 in last year’s draft. They traded their own thirdround pick to the Cardinals in the trade for Anderson.

Round 4

Picks: No. 123 (via the Browns) and No. 126 (own).

How they got them: The Texans acquired the pick from the Browns in the Deshaun Watson trade two years ago.

Round 5

Picks: None.

How it happened: The Texans traded their own fifth-round pick to the Cardinals in the trade for offensive tackle Josh Jones last August.

Round 6

Picks: No. 188 (via the Vikings) and No. 189 (via the Bills).

How they got them: The Texans got the pick from the Vikings when they traded back last month. They also got the pick from the Bills in the Diggs trade.

The Texans also traded a sixth-round pick (No. 200) they got from Dallas in the Brandin Cooks trade to Buffalo to move up in the 2023 draft and select wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson.

Round 7

Picks: No. 238 (Via the Saints) and No. 247 (own).

How they got them: In 2021, the Texans traded running back Mark Ingram to the Saints for a seventh-round pick.
