SUZANN STANFORD MAGRUDER

Suzann Stanford Magruder, age 77, of Richmond, TX passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024.

Suzann was born on January 13, 1947 in Marlin, TX. She graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, TX then continued her education at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoche­s where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Education. She met the love of her life, Dan Magruder, while they worked at Battelstei­n’s department store in Houston in the summer of 1969. They married on Feb 7, 1970, and began their married adventure at Fort Bliss, TX, where Dan served as an artillery officer while Suzann began her teaching career at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic school. Following army service, Dan and Suzann moved to Meadows Place, TX where they resided for 23 years prior to moving to Pecan Grove Plantation in Richmond, TX. Suzann had a lengthy and rewarding career as an art teacher at Killough Middle School and Hastings High School in Alief ISD. She was a talented artist and especially loved drawing, painting and art history. After Suzann retired from teaching, she enjoyed many vacations to different destinatio­ns around the world with Dan and a close-knit group of forever friends. Suzann was a wonderful, supportive and loving mother to her two children, her two beloved granddaugh­ters and grandniece. She will be deeply missed by all.

Suzann was preceded in death by her mother Marcus Raye Stanford & father Howard Dwain Stanford. She is survived by her husband, Dan, her son Scott Magruder, daughter Erin Magruder Bara & husband Sonny Bara, granddaugh­ters Rainey Bara and Ava Bara, brother Mark Stanford and sister-in-law Grace Stanford, grandniece Emma Stanford & fiance

Collin Cryer, grandnephe­w Hendrix Cryer, brother-in-law John Lunstroth, nephew Jost Lunstroth, sister-in-law Sally Magruder, niece Jennifer Magruder, nephew Matt Magruder, cousins Debbie Erickson and Glenda Stroud, in addition to many other close friends and family members.

A celebratio­n of Suzann’s life is planned for May with more details forthcomin­g.
