ARE THERE ANIMALS THAT BECOME PLANTS?

-

Not only does the outward appearance of Costasiella kuroshimae, aka the leaf sheep nudibranch, resemble that of an underwater plant, the creature also eats like one. In fact, it’s one of the few animal species that can carry out photosynthesis. The sea slug, which lives in the seas of Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines, also feeds on algae. But instead of digesting them completely it incorporates their chloroplasts into its own body. Thus it takes in energy from sunlight and converts it into oxygen and glucose, enabling it to live for several months without eating more algae.
