Dear Ideas & Discoveries readers,
It is with extremely heavy hearts that we say goodbye to all of you. For over a decade id magazine has been a wellspring of thoughtprovoking articles on topics that push the limits of the imagination. Now our run is done, as regretfully the administrators have decided the magazine will no longer be published in its current format. So this is the last regular issue of id. Next year two special issues are due to be published, likely in the spring and fall, and they’ll be for sale only at newsstands. The issues will be longer and the format will be different.
Though subscriptions aren’t available anymore, current subscribers will continue to receive the special issues until their subscription term expires, at no additional cost. If you have any subscription questions you can get in touch with our customer service division by emailing idmagazine@emailcustomerservice.com or calling 1-800-456-6062. Also, if you would like to acquire any recent or older back issues of id you can visit our online store at backissues.ideasanddiscoveries.com.
On behalf of everyone who makes id possible, I’d like to thank you for welcoming this magazine into your life and allowing it to interface with your worldview. It has truly been a privilege for me to serve in the capacity of the editor who keeps the various wheels turning in unison.
id is the smartest, coolest, and most universally accessible science magazine I’ve ever encountered. Anyone of any age and background can pick it up and understand and enjoy it, despite some advanced concepts; indeed, we have readers of all stripes, from schoolchildren to senior citizens, from artists and soldiers to inmates and scientists— so many walks of life. It was fun corresponding with you over the years.
We’ve covered a lot of fascinating subjects in the past decade and presented them with captivating images and a provocative tone that encourages thoughts to take wing. id’s articles have delved into so many interesting aspects of the amazing world around us and in us: the natural wonders of our planet, the complexities of the mind and body we’re inhabiting, tales of the history that has shaped humanity and snapshots of the present-day society to which we belong, stories of science in action and news of technological advancements that further the march of progress—even the very nature of the universe.
There’s no end of things to explore. Hopefully the next incarnation of the magazine will continue to present intriguing content. As we’ve so often said in id, hope springs eternal. May your lifelong pursuit of knowledge be productive and enjoyable; after all, we’re here to learn. To help you on your way, here’s a tip we’d like to share: Khan Academy has free online courses in the form of video tutorials on many academic subjects that may interest you. (You can visit their website for the full courses or watch videos on Youtube.) Who knows where brushing up on your biology or finally getting the hang of economics will take you!
With that, we leave you to the final regular issue of id. Thank you for embracing what I wholeheartedly believe is a wonderful publication about life, the universe, and everything.
Sincerest regards and well wishes,
Seta Papazian
