Thank you from County Library
The Imperial County Free Library’s Summer Reading Program was a huge success thanks to the hard work of our library staff, volunteers and supporters. This summer, children of all ages enjoyed reading and fun activities at each of the county libraries in Calipatria, Holtville, Heber and Salton City, including a special program in the Seeley area. Over 500 children registered for the summer reading program and over 8,600 books were read! Children who read books during the months of June and July were awarded a variety of prizes including age-appropriate toys, crayons and coloring books, backpacks and meal certificates from McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Applebee’s and Rubio’s.
A special thank you to local donors including Heber Public Utility District, CalEnergy, El Toro Export, Applebee’s and Taco Bell for their generous contributions. The library would also like to thank our cadre of volunteers who contributed their time, energy and creativity so children around the county could enjoy fun activities at their local library.
Finally, thanks to all the parents, grandparents, older siblings, neighbors and friends who took their child to the library and encouraged them to read. In the words of the well-known African proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child” and a community to raise a reader. No amount of words can express the gratitude the library staff feel for the support from the community. We encourage people of all ages to keep reading and visiting their local library.
