Popular acts return to fair

or those that aren’t into rollercoas­ter rides or fair games, the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta will provide plenty of entertainm­ent for 10 days.

Beta Maxx is a band from San Diego specializi­ng in 1980s music. From Michael Jackson, to Prince, to Bon Jovi and more, the band uses big hair and big voices to relive the 1980s. The band is set to perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Rabobank Centerstag­e.

The same night will include Metalachi which has quickly become a favorite at the fair. The band returns for a fourth straight year to the fair, bringing a heavy-metal mariachi unique ensemble adorned with mariachi hats and tight leather pants. The Los Angeles-based band will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Grandstand Stage.

Foghat is an English rock band, formed in 1970, and has since netted eight gold records, one platinum and a double platinum. It’s most recent album, “Under the Influence,” was released in June. According to the band’s biography, “Foghat fans are everywhere and these days their audience consists of all ages. From the young kids who play Guitar Hero III and know all of the lyrics to ‘Slow Ride,’ to the Dazed & Confused generation of 30-40 somethings and the ‘boomers’ who bought Foghat’s first vinyl or 8 track!”

The group is set to perform at 6 p.m. Saturday, accompanie­d by the Clark Baker Rock Camp on the Grandstand Stage.

Popular Mexican band Los Cadetes de Linares will take the stage at 7 p.m. Sunday, along with Sonora Dinamita, a Columbian cumbia group.

Los Cadetes is one of the oldest running Norteño groups still in operation while Sonora Dinamita is popular for making listeners want to dance whether they know how or not.

For the reggae fan, Quinto Sol will perform at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rabobank Center Stage. Quinto Sol, from East Los Angeles, is a roots-reggae band that weaves its music with Latin rhythms such as Cumbia and Rumba.

Also featured will be local band such as Nick Wells and the Big Bad Wolf. Wells is the Holtville City Manager when he’s not performing. The group is set to perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Throughout the 10 days, Suzy Haner will be hypnotizin­g those that are willing to provide a good laugh for audience members. According to her website’s bio, she has been a comedic hypnotists for more than 15 years, performing in Disneyland, Six Flags Magic Mountain, various state fairs, casinos and countless private and public events throughout the country.

She’s also been featured on television shows “Inside Edition and “The Debra Duncan Show.”

Other major activities during the fair include High School Madness (March 6), a Craft Beer Festival (March 7), a Demolition Derby and Freestyle Motocross Stunt Show (March 8) and California Lightning Sprints and Dwarf Car racing (March 11-12). A separate ticket will be required for the racing events.

There are several different ways to buy presale fair tickets. The $60 family value packs, a value of more than $180, consist of two adult and two children’s California Mid-Winter Fair admissions, $50 in fair coupons, two carnival WOW wristband coupons and two adult and two child admissions to the 2017 San Diego County Fair.

Individual presale tickets, which are $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12 and $5 for senior citizens ages 60 and up as well as $20 carnival WOW coupons redeemable for carnival wristbands, are currently on sale. All presales, which provide savings of up to 25 percent off regular ticket purchase prices and up to 40 percent off carnival coupons, will end March 2. After that date, regular admission prices apply.

Plenty of entertainm­ent will be available throughout the 10 days, providing fun for all members of the family.
