Julia Martha Lopez, 89, of El Centro passed away Friday, March 3.

Mother moved to El Centro when she married the love of her life, Manuel C. Lopez (deceased). They raised eight children: Martha Sanchez (John), Mary Aguirre (Arnold), Manuel Lopez, Jr. (Margaret), Gloria Garcia (David), Andrew Lopez (Kathy), Richard Lopez (Noni), Paul Lopez (Rachel), and Melissa Moore (Corey) and were followed by 33 grandchild­ren, 19 great-grandchild­ren and 4 great-great-grandchild­ren. She is survived by her beloved sister Celia Bernal, three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was a wonderful mother and loving housewife. She worked in the produce industry and later at Kmart from where she retired. Mother was very active in her church at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish. She loved and taught adult religious education. She helped form a Bible study group that met weekly in her home for ten years. La Vida Nueva, a publicatio­n of religious topics developed from this group. Mother was an avid writer of poetry and wrote many inspiratio­nal poems that have found their way to many hearts and places. She was always willing to recite her poems upon request at family gatherings and special occasions. Mom fulfilled her dream of visiting the Holy Land and vividly remembered wading in the Dead Sea. Mom had a strong passion for her faith in our Lord and inculcatin­g her faith to her family was paramount. Mother will live in our hearts forever.

All services for Mother will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 153 E. Brighton, El Centro. Visitation will take place Monday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will commence at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14. Mother will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery immediatel­y following Mass.
