Wildcats top Spartans

The Imperial Valley League defending champs of Brawley Union High worked to record an IVL win over Central Union High at the Spartan pool on Thursday.

The Brawley boys won 112-46, while the girls won 110-59.

For the Wildcats, Ross Wilson had four wins including the 200-medley, the 200-free relay, the 50- free and the 100 free.

Alec Walker had three wins as he was part of the winning relay teams and took first in the 100 back.

For the Brawley girls, Logan Nemlowill was part of the winning medley and 200-free relays and won the 50-free and the 100 breast.

Jessica Acosta was also part of the two winning relays and individual­ly took home first in the 100 free and the 200 individual medley.

Also for Brawley, Larissa Avina was part of the winning medley and free relays and also won the 200 free and 100 back.

Hornets win in extras

CALIPATRIA — The Calipatria High baseball team fought to defeat San Diego Jewish Academy, 3-2, in eight innings here on Thursday night.

Recording the win on the mound for the Hornets was Israel Gonzalez, who threw the complete game giving up just five hits, one earned run and recording 10 strikeouts.

Offensivel­y for Calipatria, Robert Cervantes went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and recorded the game-winning RBI, Jesse Gaytan went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Marco Perez with 3-for-4 with a double.

The Hornets improve to 2-2 on the season and return to action at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday traveling to face Brawley Union High.
