Athlete makes peculiar race
A young handicapped athlete made Friday a 124-mile race to San Felipe in order to raise awareness about handicapped people.
Francisco Postlethwaite started his race on wheelchair to make people aware of sports, education and occupational issues for handicapped.
The City of Mexicali Municipal Sports Institute provided support to the athlete.
Family members, friends and members of the public supported Postlethwaite at the start line. For the athlete the most difficult parts were the hills on the road.
Postlethwaite arrived in San Felipe around 2 p.m.
Men arrested for restaurant robbery
Two men were arrested Friday evening after allegedly committing a robbery at a Chinese food restaurant, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
The robbery was reported at 7:45 pm at Happy people restaurant located at Sinaloa Avenue and Uxmal Street at Colonia Nueva Esperanza neighborhood.
The suspects were identified as Alejandro “Doe,” 28 and Carlos Alberto “Doe,” 27.
Authorities said the suspects arrived at the scene and brandished a firearm and demanded money. The suspects took 500 pesos and fled the scene on a gray 2002 Volkswagen Jetta.
The suspects were arrested blocks ahead.
3 caught after store robbery
Three individuals were arrested Saturday night after allegedly committing a robbery against a convenience store, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
The suspects were identified as Abril “Doe,” 24, Sarai “Doe,” 17 and Salim “Doe,” 17.
The robbery was reported at 10:36 p.m. at the Oxxo store located at Río San Ángel Street and De Los Candiles Street at Fraccionamiento Valle del Puebla neighborhood in southeastern Mexicali.
According to a store employee one of the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded money.
The employee gave the suspect 1800 pesos or $100, authorities said.
The suspects fled on a white 2000 Grand Prix vehicle.
Police officers found and arrested the suspects moments later.
Individual arrested for store robbery
A 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday after allegedly committing a robbery at a convenience store, said the Municipal Public Safety Department.
The robbery was reported at 4:22 p.m. at the Oxxo store located at Rosa del Desierto Street and Heredia Street at Fraccionamiento Valle del Puebla neighborhood in Southeastern Mexicali.
The suspect was identified as René Guadalupe “Doe,” authorities said.
A store employee told the police the suspect arrived at the scene and brandished a firearm to demand money. The suspect left the store with 500 pesos in bills and coins, the police said.
The suspect was found and arrested moments later by police officers in possession of the cash and a fake gun made of tubes, the police said.
