CARLOS OLIVAS July 17, 1951 - Mar. 24, 2017

Carlos “Charlie” Olivas, 65, of Oceanside, California went to be with Our Lord on March 24, 2017. Charlie passed of natural causes at the Brady House, where he resided.

Charlie was born to Carolina Navarro in Anthony, Texas on July 17, 1951. Charlie was not expected to survived for more than five years. But Charlie, as he did throughout his life surprised everyone and lived until 65 years of age.

Charlie survived because of the loving care he received from his mother Carolina and his sisters, Irene, Betty and Lila. They nurtured him and lovingly cared for him thru those early stages of his development and throughout his whole life.

At the passing of his mother, he was ready for the next step in his life. He wanted to be like his nephews and live away from home, have friends, roommates and work. He happily moved to the Weaver Home and found much love and happiness. He had friends, roommates, a job and a loving and caring caregiver. Besides working, they did much traveling throughout our surrounding states including a trip to Hawaii. He participated in the Special Olympics and liked to go bowling and to parties with other homes. Later at Brady Home he also found love and happiness, especially because three of his roommates moved with him. Charlie flourished in his independence. We could see it in his eyes and in his way of walking. We greatly appreciate both the Weaver and Brady Homes for all the love and care they gave him.Charlie worked for ARC for about 15 years in San Marcos, California. He did community work as a disabled person while living at the Weaver and Brady homes. He retired in 2015. Charlie lived in Brawley during the mid 1960’s. He was a friendly and happy person and was very helpful to others. He liked to play little tricks on loved ones and got a great laugh out of it. He had a great memory which we really admired. He loved his crayolas and coloring books. He would draw and color his own pictures; signed them and give them to loved ones as gifts. He loved music, I Love Lucy, Snoopy, the color purple, enchiladas with sour cream, and his sopita de fideo.

We will miss his sunny disposition, his laughter, his joy, his drawings, but most of all the love and care he had for his family and loved ones. God has taken his angel home.

Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Carolina Navarro; brothers, Alfredo Navarro, Gonzalo Navarro and Fernando Navarro; his nephew John Vela and niece Marie Ellison.

Charlie is survived by his sisters, Rosie Vela from Riverside, Irene Gozales (Juan) from Brawley, Betty Ramirez from West Covina and Lila Vela (Ray) from Solana Beach all in California. Also surviving him are his nephews, David Vela (Irma), Danny Vela (Margaret), Gabriel Vela (Peggy), Mark Navarro and John Navarro, Alfred Navarro, Arthur Navarro (Amy), Fernando Navarro and Greg Ramirez, Aaron Ramirez and Abraham Ramirez (Jennifer), Albert Tabarez and Michael Tabarez (Laura) and niece Bertha Navarro and numerous grandnephews and nieces.

Services for Charlie will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brawley on Monday, April 3, 2017. Viewing will be at 9 a.m. with the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Internment at Riverview Cemetery will follow after Mass is completed.
