Emil Porter 94, Imperial

Emil, 94, of Imperial passed away of natural causes on March 28, 2017. He had Alzheimer for over 5 years, but still was very happy to greet and see everyone.

He was born in Iowa and from 1941 to 1943 and enlisted in the Navy last holding the rating of Aviation Machinist’s mate (Carburetor Mechanic) 2nd Class Petty Officer. On August 12, 1947 he married LaVonne Porter, and was married to LaVonne until her passing September 18, 2016. Emil started off his teaching career working in Eagle Grove High School in Iowa, and received his Master’s Degree from Drake University. The family moved to Calexico in 1958, and Emil worked for the Calexico School District for over 25 years, as a teacher and principal of De Anza Middle School. After retiring in 1983 and leaving Calexico School District the family moved to Imperial, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous brothers and sisters, and grandson, Kyle MacDonald.

Emil is survived by his son, Keith (Kris Kussman) Porter; daughters, Linda (Mike) Arndt, Nancy Porter; brothers, sisters, grandchild­ren and great- grandchild­ren.

He will be remembered by the longtime friends in Calexico by the Burch street group, his golfing buddies, the Mexico fishing group, the coffee group, and many students that he had the pleasure to teach and mentor.

On April 11, 2017 at 8:30 a.m, graveside services will be conducted by Hems Brother Mortuary at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro. Reception will follow at 2346 McConnell Rd. El Centro.
