Agencies reach out at SDSU

-

Our San Diego State University-Imperial Valley’s Student Affairs Team and Associated Students Council came together to organize the Careers in Public Service Fair Day for both our students and the community.

The event took place at our Rollie Carrillo Quad and walkway area on March 23.

A total of 22 agencies participated in this event, e.g. FBI, Brawley Union High School and Imperial County Behavioral Health Services to name a few.

Over 55 students and community members were in attendance.

We would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who attended and made this event possible. We are looking forward to planning more career fairs in the near future.

The goal is to help aid students and the community to find employment. We also want to increase involvement in these events in the years to come since it is can be beneficial to everyone.

Career Services

My name is Melyssa Gonzalez, San Diego State University-Imperial Valley Alumni, class of 2015. I was fortunate enough to obtain a part-time job at SDSU-IV about two months after graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in liberal studies. I have been Student Life Coordinator for nearly two years now. In this position, I help the Associated Students Council organize and prepare events for our students. I can say in full honesty, I really enjoy my job.

I am delighted to announce that as of this moment, I have become a full-time employee, undertaking Career Services. This service will both support SDSU-IV students and expand my professional horizons. Gonzalez With this new roll, I am committed to aid past, current, and future SDSU-IV students with the preparation process to obtaining a job. Some of my new responsibilities will be to help students/alumni plan for their career, search for jobs, build their resume, and organize career fairs, among other things. We recently had a “Careers in Public Service Fair Day” on campus with the participation of 22 agencies. Several students and community members attended this event. One of my goals is to have at least one career fair per semester (two per year), if possible, so students can be informed of the different job opportunities the community has to offer. I believe Career Services will be extremely beneficial to our students because, let’s be honest, a helping hand can always be useful. I hope I am of assistance and can help ease our students’ entrance into the work field.
