Workshops set to inform about recreational marijuana laws.
The Imperial County Board of Supervisors will host a series of informational workshops to inform the public about recent changes in state law pertaining to the recreational use of marijuana that could potentially lead to new business developments in the county, stated an Imperial County Board of Supervisors press release.
The workshops will be held at 1:30 p.m. April 18 at the Imperial County Administration Center, 940 West Main St., in El Centro, at 5:30 p.m. April 20 at Calexico City Hall, 608 Heber Ave., and 5:30 p.m. April 24 at Del Rio Community Center, 1501 I St., in Brawley.
Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act, was approved by California voters in November 2016, which legalized the possession and use of marijuana for non-medical purposes for adults 21 and older and created a state regulatory framework for commercial activity surrounding recreational marijuana, including but not limited to, cultivation, manufacturing and distribution. The board seeks the public’s input and comments at the informational workshops about the potential methods of local implementation for this statewide voter-approved law, as the board explores potential rules and ordinances that they may develop. The board encourages the public to attend one or more of the workshops.
