Tigers walk-off against North Hollywood

ENCINITAS — The Imperial High baseball team faced North Hollywood in a Lions Tourney contest earning a 5-4 walk-off victory over the Huskies at San Diegito High School here on Wednesday.

The game was tied at four when Imperial’s Christian Zamudio singled to drive in Patrick Bush, who walked to start off the bottom of the seventh inning.

Bush, Kobby Lopez and Jonathan Reyes each had two hits to lead the Tigers.

Alex Duarte pitched the final four scoreless innings to earn the victory. Duarte gave up just two hits and struck out four.

Central tops Poly

SAN DIEGO — The Central Union High baseball team worked to defeat Poly 3-1 in a Lions Tourney matchup at Westview High here on Wednesday.

For Central, Luis Flores went 2-3 with two doubles and one run scored, Eduardo Vasquez went 1-3 with a double and one RBI and Ricky Guzman went 1-3 with a double and one RBI.

Southwest falls in final

SAN DIEGO — The Southwest High baseball team advanced to the Division 2A championsh­ip game in the Lions Tourney after defeating Whittier Christian on Wednesday and Maranatha Christian on Thursday.

In the 1-0 victory over Whittier, Victor Velarde picked up the win, throwing seven innings, giving up just three hits, while recording one strikeout.

At the plate for the Eagles, Velarde went 1-3 with one RBI, Andy Carrillo went 1-3, Ethan Ross went 1-2 and Francisco Ulloa went 2-3 with two doubles. Against Marantha Christian in the semifinal, the Eagles won 4-2 to advance to Thursday afternoon’s championsh­ip game against Classical Academy.

In the final, the Eagles fell 8-2. No other stats were available from these games.
