Snyder’s softball clinic a success
During her time as a player, Melissa Snyder would often participate in softball clinics where there would be more players than coaches.
This motivated Snyder to organize her first ever clinic, which had three Imperial Valley College softball players running each of the activity stations.
“We wanted to try to prioritize the youth because I know they all love the game of softball, but we want them to know how to play correctly,” said Snyder about the camp.
The clinic held at IVC’s softball field on Saturday morning gave over 50 players from ages six to 14 an opportunity to learn new base running, hitting, receiving, catching and pitching techniques.
“It was fun. I liked batting because I like to bat,” said seven-year-old Kazleigh Anulo about what she enjoyed about the clinic. Kazleigh explained the clinic’s one-handed hitting drill helped her batting skills and hopes to attend next year.
Snyder enjoyed the dynamic between the players and coaches at the camp, as the younger players could see the IVC players as role models while providing a chance for the college players to share everything they know about the game.
“This camp helps them with their mechanics and I think it’s important for them to learn this young so it can help them be better athletes when they’re older,” stated IVC player Cristina Garcia, who enjoyed acting as a coach in the clinic.
Snyder hosted the clinic alongside IVC head softball coach Jill Lerno and assistant coach Nikki Cordova and hopes to make it an annual event.
