Barbara Moralez passed away on April 2, 2017, after a short illness. She was born on December 1, 1933 in the village of Ivanci, Slovenia. In February 2017, Barbara celebrated 52 years as a US citizen.

Barbara was a long-time active member of St. Mary Catholic Parish and host of the Roving Rosary Ministry. Barbara was a skilled seamstress, who assisted parish clergy by main- taining their vestments with repairs and alteration­s. Barbara first worked as a seamstress in Calexico, then she worked many years in El Centro Elementary School District cafeterias. In retirement, she was well remembered and loved by many of the teachers, co-workers, and students.

Barbara was well known by family and friends for her baking. Who can’t forget her apple strudel and cinnamon rolls? They were the best ever. Barbara often shared her story of immigratin­g to the US with young people, stressing the importance of hard work to more opportunit­ies, as the key to a better life, to which she is an example to all. She had a special gift of making long lasting friendship­s. Her home was always welcoming and she was a gracious host. She will be truly missed by family and friends.

In 2013, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Albert; parents, Ana and Stefan Horvat; brother, Stefan and sister, Ivanka. She is survived by brother, Franc Horvat, his wife Cvetka Horvat and numerous nieces and nephews from Slovenia and many Godchildre­n.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Parish. Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10 a.m. with Father Mark Edney officiatin­g at St. Mary Catholic Parish in El Centro, CA. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro, CA.
